On November 16, 2024 Chloe completed her Eagle Project which consisted of building a pergola and digging and pouring concrete footings to support it. Chloe completed her Eagle Board of Review on December 11, 2024 earning her the rank of Eagle Scout.
Throughout this campout, we worked on requirements for the Eagle-required Cooking merit badge. We discussed the health and safety requirements of the merit badge and completed all of the camp cooking requirements.
We went to Raven Rock in early January and stayed in cabins. This campout is an annual competition between patrols and we play games inspired by the Klondike dog race. We saw which patrol could pull the dogsled the fastest, tried to create strong structures using lashings, and saw who could cook the best food.
On July 22, 2023 Summer completed her Eagle Project in which she restored a playground fence, cleaned gutters and a parking lot, and restored a water drain at Mariposa School for Children with Autism. Summer completed her Eagle Board of Review on October 14, 2023 earning her the rank of Eagle Scout.
“For my project I will help clean up the Mariposa School for Children with Autism. Scouts and adults will clean out gutters on the roof by hand and with tools. Many of the school’s groundwater drains are loose and improperly placed. Scouts will clean them out and secure them with 1/4″ PVC trim and caulk. Adults and older scouts will replace broken boards in the fence. Adults and older scouts will clean up parking lines with a power washer. My project will benefit the Mariposa School for Children with Autism. I will provide some overdue maintenance and repair. This will make a safer and more restored environment at the school.” – Summer S.
On September 1, 2023 Arshia completed her Eagle Project in which she led scouts and adults to build a planting station at Holly Springs Food Cupboard. Arshia completed her Eagle Board of Review on October 14, 2023 earning her the rank of Eagle Scout.
“My project is a Rinsing table for the Holly Springs Food Cupboard. It will be used to wash, dry, and package vegetables that the food cupboard grows. It has two sinks, a screened area for drying, and two countertops on either side for packaging. It also has a lot of space for storage, including a 12-foot shelf under the table, a 6-foot shelf on top, and some hooks. The sink can be covered so the tabletop can also be used for storage. This will help the food cupboard stay organized. There is a drainage system attached to the sinks which lets water out into the back instead of damaging the surface. This table is beneficial for the food cupboard because it will make the process of packaging food very easy. Since this table has stations for each step, the process will be a lot faster and can allow multiple people to work on it. It will increase efficiency and hopefully the amount of people they can help by distributing food.” – Arshia K.
On […], 2023 Yannick completed her Eagle Project which included building trail bridges to help prevent harmful erosion at the Agape Kure Camp. Yannick completed her Eagle Board of Review on Oct 14, 2023 earning her the rank of Eagle Scout.
On May 21, 2023 Avery completed her Eagle Project which consisted of building langstroth beehives for the Holly Springs Food Cupboard. Avery completed her Eagle Board of Review on September 15, 2023 earning her the rank of Eagle Scout.
“My Eagle Project will be working with the bee area of the Holly Springs food cupboard. This project will focus on the construction and instillation of a Long Langstroth Beehive. This form of hive is horizontally stacked as opposed to vertically to enable easier access to brood (bee larva) and honey. Additionally, this project will entail the leveling of the grounds surrounding the placement of the hive and building a stone foundation under the hive to prevent the growth of weeds. Finally, I will construct and fill a bee feeding station with sugar water to provide the bees with substance during winter or times of the year that pollen is scarce. This project will allow for the food cupboard to produce more honey that they can either sell or give out to those who come by the cupboard for food. It will allow for the food cupboard to reach more people and aid more people through hvaing more supplies and stock to provide. Additionally, it will make the hive more available for the bee keepers to access because of its layout.” – Avery F.
On May 15, 2023 Chaya completed her Eagle Project which consisted of building a hydroponic garden at the Holly Springs Food Cupboard. Chaya completed her Eagle Board of Review on September 15, 2023 earning her the rank of Eagle Scout.
“This project will the helpful because it allows the food cupboard to grow more types of plants. It’s also energy efficient, and production increases in the same amount of space because the plant will never run out of nutrients due to the reservoir routinely pumping them out. We can reuse the water for 3 weeks and have it cycle through the system.This system is needed because the food cupboard has a restricted amount of space and since this goes on a post it doesn’t take up as much space. However it also allows nutrients to be more easily available to plants, and allows for crop rotation. This allows the foood cupboard to have total control over pH, nutrients, light + heat exposure, plants they grow.” – Chaya M.
On January 7, 2023 Emerson completed her Eagle Project which involved building shelters for feral cats at Paw Prints Animal Rescue in Garner, NC. Emerson completed her Eagle Board of Review on June 8, 2023 earning her the rank of Eagle Scout.
“My project will be building feral cat feeding stations. These are made for volunteers at Paw Prints Animal Resuce to be able to feed and watch over the feral cat community in Wake County. I am planning on building 2 feeding stations. This project will benefit Paw Prints because they are a non profit organization who rely on donations from the community in order to help animals. These feeding stations allows the cats to have a safe, dry place to hide and eat as well as being a central place for the volunteers to monitor their health and safety.” Emerson S.
On February 27, 2022 Elizabeth completed her Eagle Project which consisted of building raised planting beds for the Holly Springs Food Cupboard. Elizabeth completed her Eagle Board of Review on September 14, 2022 earning her the rank of Eagle Scout.
“For my project I will be installing new raised beds in the Blue Garden at the Holly Springs Food Cupboard. This will involve: removing trellises from the existing garden, constructing and installing raised planter beds and filling them with dirt, adding bed signs, relocating several barrels containing apple trees, removing 3 inches of dirt from the paths, adding cardboard to the paths and covering the paths with mulch. My project will be helpful because raised beds increase the yield of a garden. The clear demarkation of beds will also make it easier for individuals to identify and tend to the plants. ” – Elizabeth G.
